Meningitis Information
Article last modified Thu, Oct 4, 2007 10:33 AM

Viral meningitis is generally less severe and resolves without specific treatment, while bacterial meningitis can be quite severe and may result in brain damage, hearing loss, or learning disability. Before the 1990s, Haemophilus influezae type b (Hib) was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis, but new vaccines being given to all children as part of their routine immunizations have reduced the occurrence of invasive disease due to H. influenzae. Today, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis are the leading causes of bacterial meningitis.

I want to personally encourage you to read our web site frequently. Here’s where you will find out about new programs sponsored by Auxiliary Services, upcoming events and news in general that affects you and the Auxiliary Services departments.

You can also find more information, including site links, about any of the seven Auxiliary Services by using the departmental links provided on the left of this page.

Some of you know that from time to time our vendors give us tickets to special events and those of you who know this also know we pass those tickets along to students, faculty and staff.

This web site is where those contests generate. Time is most often essential for contests. I encourage you to make our web page your home page to be the first to know of exciting events and contests coming your way.

Auxiliary Services is “all the important stuff” and “Auxiliary Services loves students!”

We’re here to make your stay at the Georgia Institute of Technology a great one! Call on us!
